All the following poems are from: Sin: Selected Poems of Forugh Farrokhzad,  translated by Sholeh Wolpe
     Sin

I have sinned a rapturous sin
in a warm enflamed embrace,
sinned in a pair of vindictive arms,
arms violent and ablaze.

 In that quiet vacant dark
I looked into his mystic eyes,
found such longing that my heart
fluttered impatient in my breast.

In that quiet vacant dark
I sat beside him punch-drunk,
his lips released desire on mine,
grief unclenched my crazy heart.

I poured in his ears lyrics of love:
O my life, my lover it’s you I want.
Life-giving arms, it’s you I crave.
Crazed lover, for you I thirst.

Lust enflamed his eyes,
red wine trembled in the cup,
my body, naked and drunk,
quivered softly on his breast.

I have sinned a rapturous sin
beside a body quivering and spent.
I do not know what I did O God,
in that quiet vacant dark.
–Forugh Farrokhzad, trans. Sholeh Wolpé

NYT REVIEW of Song of the Captive Bird: https://www.nytimes.com/201...

Golestan's The Brick & Mirror ... 1965 film. Forough plays woman in the cab who abandons her baby (poignant) 3.35 into the film.

The first setting is the Sixties in Tehran. Farough Farrokhzad shot The House is Black in a lepers-colony outside Tabriz. Hossein Mansouri lived there as a young boy. His parents were lepers, he and his younger sister were healthy kids. Mansouri is shown in the film as an energetic happy kid. The teacher asks the class to mention some beautiful things. The young kid answers with four words: moon, sun, flower, game.Farrokhzad decided on impulse to adopt him. He moved into her house in Tehran. Four years later, in 1967, she died in a car accident. He was only ten years old at that time.
